A man and his wife were sitting by their door. They had a warm, roasted chicken on the table. They were just about to eat it together. Suddenly, the man saw his old father coming. He was in a hurry. He quickly hid the chicken so his father could not have any. The old man came in, took a drink, and went back home. Now the son wanted to put the chicken back on the table. But when he picked it up, it was not a chicken anymore. It was a big, green toad! The toad jumped right into the son's face and sat there. It would not move. If anyone tried to take it off, the toad looked at them with big, bright eyes. It looked like it wanted to jump again, so no one dared to touch it.

The ungrateful son had to feed the toad every single day. If he did not, the toad would eat right off his face. He walked through the world with no rest at all.

And the ungrateful son was forced to feed the toad every day, or else it fed itself on his face, and thus he went about the world knowing no rest."
