A girl from Brakel once went to St. Anne’s chapel at the foot of the hill. She wanted to find a husband, and since she thought she was all alone, she sang out, "Oh, holy Saint Anne, help me find a man soon. You know him well. He lives by the Suttmer gate, and his hair is yellow. You know him well." The priest was standing quietly behind the altar and heard her. He spoke in a loud, gruff voice. "You shall not have him! You shall not have him!" The girl thought the little statue of Mary, who stood by her mother Anne, had shouted that to her. She got very angry. She cried, "Fiddle de dee, you conceited thing! Hold your tongue and let your mother speak!
